Overlake Receives 'A' Grade in Hospital Safety

For the second year in a row, the Leapfrog Group has awarded the medical center top honors

Bellevue, Wash. (November 4, 2014) – Overlake Medical Center has received a Hospital Safety ScoreSM “A” letter grade from The Leapfrog Group for the second year is a row.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization and advocate for patient safety nationwide, awards letter grades to hospitals on a semi-annual basis. Overlake was the only hospital on the Eastside to be recognized with an A grade this year. Only 11 of the 44 Leapfrog-graded hospitals in Washington received an A grade.

“This recognition is proof of Overlake’s continued commitment to providing the highest caliber care to our patients,” said Overlake President & CEO J. Michael Marsh. “We are incredibly proud to have earned an ‘A’ distinction for the second year in a row.”

Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score assigns A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals to show how safe hospitals are for patients. It rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety using publicly-available hospital safety data. The score is used to help empower patients to make informed decisions about the safety of their hospital care.
