Overlake Recognized as 'Top Performer' in Quality Measures

For the second year in a row, The Joint Commission honors Overlake’s quality performance

Bellevue, Wash. (Nov. 14, 2014) – Overlake Medical Center was recognized this week as a “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures” by The Joint Commission.

Overlake is one of only of 712 hospitals in the nation to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past two consecutive years.

The Joint Commission, which prepares the annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” recognizes hospitals for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes to improve patient care for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. The report was released Nov. 13.

“We’re proud to be recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer,” said Overlake Medical Center CEO J. Michael Marsh.  “This honor reflects our continuing commitment to provide our patients with the highest caliber of care each and every day.”

When awarding “Top Performer” distinctions, The Joint Commission collects and analyzes an aggregation of accountability measure data from the most recent full calendar year (2013).  To receive this honor, a hospital must score 95 percent or above on the accountability measures; a 95 percent score means a hospital provided evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Overlake Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission.
