Environmental Services is responsible for the cleaning of patient rooms, clinical departments and all public areas on campus, as well as the handling and proper disposal of all waste streams generated throughout the hospital.
The department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and performs approximately 48,000 discharge cleanings annually and is responsible for cleaning over 500,000 square feet of space throughout the hospital campus.
We have an extremely diverse group of staff with multiple years of service under their belts. Some have worked over 30 years in the same department, and the department’s employee satisfaction ranks around 90 percent. We interact closely with nursing staff, patients and visitors throughout the hospital and pride ourselves in the work we do every day. We have open and honest communication between all staff, supervisors and managers.
Most employees are full-time, with some part-time staff and a handful of on-call staff on each shift. Our on-call staff generally relieve open shifts or cover in the case of absences, emergencies, or pre-scheduled vacations or leaves of absence.
On-call staff usually have first choice for internal, available part-time or full-time positions.
Shift hours usually start at typical first, second and third shift times that coordinate with the hospital.
Number of Employees & FTEs
Environmental Services has about 72 FTEs (77 employees, 2 shift supervisors, an assistant manager and manager) who work in both patient care and non-patient care areas of the main hospital.
