Career Paths

Because Financial Planning works with every department in the hospital, there are numerous career paths one could take from this area. Moving from Financial Planning to Strategic Planning, for example, is a natural progression as similar skill sets are needed for business plan development. Working as a business manager within a division is another avenue, if a more specialized focus is desired. Accounting might be another area of consideration due to similar required skills (e.g. reading financial statements, understanding debits and credits).

Every year analysts are allowed to attend several local and/or national seminars to keep up-to-date on the healthcare industry and to sharpen their skills. A Health Care Financial Management Association (HFMA) membership is paid for by the department. We are committed to assisting individuals in maintaining and keeping professional certifications (e.g. a CPA license), and any time needed during the day for short education seminars is allowed as education time.
