Laboratory

Overview

We are a CAP-accredited Laboratory and adhere to the standards set by this nationally recognized professional organization. Additionally, the Laboratory is certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Joint Commission, including memberships with the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, American Clinical laboratory Association, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Society for Microbiology, AABB and Clinical Laboratory Management Association.

All Laboratory procedures are performed in accordance with guidelines issued by the following organizations: Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, American Association for Clinical Chemistry, American Society for Clinical Pathology and AABB. The Laboratory follows all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and accreditation requirements.

The goals of the Laboratory include simplifying for efficiency; addressing turnaround time of testing; supporting the hospital’s goal of excellence; providing clinical tests with state-of-the-art automation and LIS; continuing education for staff; and the proper utilization of laboratory testing.

Student Programs

Student learning programs for phlebotomists, laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians are available.

Career Paths

The career path for Laboratory Assistants includes phlebotomy, laboratory processing of specimens, microbiology set-ups, patient service center, near patient testing, and positions of shift leaders and department supervisor.

The Medical Technologist career path can include lead positions, department supervisors and laboratory director.

Work Hours/Shifts

We are a full-service 24-hour 7-day a week operation, which affords the opportunity to work three different shifts and days of the week.

63 FTEs including Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Laboratory Assistants, Transcriptions, Administrative Clerical positions and LIS support.
