Breast cancer & benign breast disease
Kristi M. Harrington, M.D. Ph.D., along with Dr. Richard Clarfeld, is a dedicated breast surgeon providing compassionate, individualized care to our patients.
She is a board-certified general surgeon who treats only diseases or conditions of the breast. She has 11 years of surgery experience dedicated to the evaluation, treatment and management of benign and malignant breast problems. She is particularly interested in the multi-disciplinary management of breast cancer and breast cancer prevention, and chairs the Breast Program at Overlake hospital.
Her practice philosophy is to treat patients in the manner that she would like to see a family member treated. Her approach is direct and honest. She focuses on educating the patient about her (and sometimes, his) treatment options, including family members in the discussion if this is the patient’s desire. She enjoys partnering with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and breast radiologists at Overlake and in the greater Seattle area. She is sometimes asked to consult on patients who come from Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.
Dr. Harrington is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Disease. She earned her B.S. in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Illinois, her Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and her M.D. at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She completed her surgical internship and residency at the University of Washington/Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Dr. Harrington is an avid runner and a Girl Scout troop leader. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children.
