Door-to-Balloon
We are also known for the speed of our "door-to-balloon" time for heart attack patients. "Door-to-balloon" is the interval between a heart attack patient's arrival at the ER and the inflation of a balloon-tipped catheter to open a blocked artery. The national goal is 90 minutes, however the team at Overlake has completed it in 22 minutes and typically gets the job done in 60 minutes.
Award-winning Care
We have received numerous awards and designations for our high-quality care, including the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines program for our excellence in improving quality of patient care and outcomes. In 2010, we were one of a few hospitals in Washington state to receive the Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award, which recognizes our commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
Overlake is a certified Primary Stroke Center, as designated by the Joint Commission. For patients who are experiencing symptoms of a stroke, our Emergency Department has a team of specialized personnel who provide state-of-the-art stroke care from admission through discharge. When a call from a paramedic is received indicating a possible stroke patient, a Code CVA is immediately paged and the stroke team reports to the Emergency Department. This team provides rapid evaluation and treatment so that stroke patients can receive the best treatment available in the shortest amount of time.
