When Scarlett was born in the early morning hours of July 10, we felt so grateful to have a healthy baby to hold in our arms.
When Scarlett arrived I realized that I knew so very little and because we were relatively new to the Seattle area and did not have a support network of friends and family. I knew I needed to find external sources of support.
The first time I stepped foot in the Mom & Infant Center was for my
post-delivery lactation appointment/check-up. I barely made it in that front door... I was hysterical and having a melt-down.
Overlake staff member, Leslie, reassured me that how I was feeling and what I was going through was normal - she evaluated my breastfeeding situation - she comforted me - she gave me confidence to leave there and do what needed to be done: to bond, love, and care for my new child. I am SO grateful to her.
At that moment, I knew I needed support and the "after-baby-classes"
were just what I needed. These classes have been so vital to my recovery, my confidence, and my overall approach to parenting.
The classes were a reason to get up, and get out of the house every week, they are a place where I could share concerns, assess developmental progress of my child, and bond with other moms just like me. I can honestly say - my transition back to work, my progress as being a new mom, and my family dynamics during this important life change - would not be as smooth and positive as it is - without the "after-baby-comes" classes.
I hope my donation can help other mothers. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. It has and DOES mean so much. :)
Heather (and Scarlett & Andrew too!)
