An Investment in World-Class Care, Close to Home
Campaign FutureCare is a comprehensive, six-year campaign to raise $50 million to support a $250 million campus renewal project and to enhance care into the future. This will be the largest fundraising endeavor in Overlake’s history.
The project will take place in three phases that will add state-of-the-art facilities to our outstanding services and compassionate care. Contributions can be made to the whole project or to a specific part of the project, and naming opportunities are available.
Phase 1: State-of-the-art cardiac operating rooms
Over 12,000 surgical procedures are done at Overlake each year—including nearly 300 cardiac surgeries. The need is expected to grow with demographic changes—particularly the aging of the population. By 2035, an estimated 20 percent of the Eastside’s residents will be 65 or older.
Phase 1 of the project includes building two new operating rooms that will support current and future advancements in cardiac surgery as well as refurbishing an existing OR to meet the requirements of the future and accommodate the projected increase in the number of patients. The new OR suite will accommodate up to 1,000 cardiac surgeries each year.
Phase 2: New East Tower
Overlake's East Tower was built 40 years ago. It has served us well but it's time for an update. The project will demolish the current East Tower and build a new one with all private rooms that are large enough to accommodate modern equipment and family visits that may include overnight stays. The rooms will be filled with natural light and create a healing environment for our patients.
The East Tower will include an integrated Childbirth Center that brings all of our services for moms and babies together. Features of the new Childbirth Center include an emergency department just for obstetric patients and a separate area designated for women at risk of preterm birth who require bed rest and monitoring. These specialized areas keep labor and delivery rooms free for women giving birth and increase the Center’s capacity.
The fourth and fifth floors of the East Tower will house rooms for orthopedic, oncology, and cardiac patients. In addition, plans include occupational and physical therapy facilities on these floors for ease of access to therapies that are a critical part of the healing process.
Phase 3: Expanded Mental Health Care
Overlake has a longstanding commitment to mental health care and operates the only hospital-based inpatient mental health treatment on the Eastside. Additional services include outpatient mental health care and clinic-based psychiatrists, ensuring that psychiatric services are accessible to the community. In the final phase of Project FutureCare, the inpatient mental health unit will move to a new space, and will add patient rooms, upgraded counseling and treatment rooms, and space for future expansion.
Innovations in Care
As a regional medical center, Overlake provides a wide range of advanced care and treatment services to the Eastside and beyond. We are committed to keeping up with advances in medical science and ensuring that people who live and work on the Eastside can access the very best care without traveling to Seattle or outside the region. Project FutureCare is not only about bricks and mortar.
