New Overlake Cancer Center Hosts First Event, Survivorship Superheroes

Bellevue, Wash. – (June 15, 2017) – The new Overlake Cancer Center is hosting its first Survivorship Superheroes event on Saturday, June 24. The event will celebrate and educate cancer patients and the people who support them on living a full life with and after cancer. Topics covered throughout the community event include: wellness, sex and intimacy, coping and stress management, art, chair yoga and cooking.

Event activities include:

  • A tasty, healthy breakfast and lunch.
  • Inspiring messages from Overlake’s Dr. Arash Moghaddam of outpatient behavioral health, and Breeze Dahlberg, breast cancer survivor and Overlake patient/employee.
  • Opportunities to connect with cancer community vendors.
  • Tours of the new Overlake Cancer Center Workshops from cancer care clinicians.
  • Expert Q&A panel

“Survivorship begins the day you hear the words, ‘You have cancer.’ From there, you’re surviving every day while you’re fighting,” said Breeze Dahlberg, breast cancer survivor, Overlake patient and Survivorship Superheroes speaker.

Survivorship Superheroes will be the first event held in Overlake’s new cancer center, which officially opens its doors on June 20. The new center was designed from the ground up by cancer survivors and patients, doctors, nurses and a blue-ribbon advisory board that resulted in an all-inclusive center. The new comprehensive cancer program, all housed under one roof, includes traditional medicine with complementary and supportive services that provides a cohesive balance in treating and healing the body, mind and spirit.

This FREE event is open to patients (who have just been diagnosed, are in treatment, or have completed treatment) and their loved ones. Preregistration is required, visit https://tinyurl.com/OverlakeSurvivorship  or send an email to oncologysocialworker@overlakehospital.org to register.
