Inside Out Apple Pie: The Guilt-Free Thanksgiving Dessert

Enjoy a healthier twist on a fall classic with this inside out apple pie recipe. Packed with apples, warm spices, and a boost of protein, it’s a simple, guilt-free dessert. Serve it warm with ice cream or chilled with Greek yogurt—either way, it’s sure to be a holiday hit. Happy baking! 

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups or 2 ¼ pounds apples (mix three varieties like Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, and a red/green type like Gala, Pink Lady, Braeburn, or Fuji).
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice (optional).
  • 2 tbsp. whole wheat flour.
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon (or to taste).
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg (or to taste).
  • 1⁄3 cup raisins.
  • ½1 package low-sugar, high protein apple cinnamon oatmeal (such as Kodiak or Quaker brands).

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Core, peel and thinly slice all of the apples.
  3. Place in a large bowl.
  4. If desired, add lemon juice.
  5. Stir in the flour, spices, raisins and oatmeal and mix well.
  6. Transfer apple mixture to an 8x8" baking dish sprayed with cooking spray.
  7. Bake 2025 minutes or until apples are soft enough to slice easily.
  8. Cool completely.
  9. Store in airtight container in your fridge.
  10.  Serve warm or cold on its own, over ice cream or plain, Greek yogurt.
