The Pregnancy Test Is Positive; Congratulations!
Congratulations, you’re pregnant! Typically, the first visit with your doctor is between your eighth to tenth week of pregnancy. While you may have already contacted your obstetrician’s office to begin regular prenatal appointments, many expectant parents have questions about the first trimester (weeks 1–13) before that appointment.
Finding Answers
While you’re waiting for that first appointment with your physician or midwife, you can attend our Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby class to learn more about early pregnancy. This comprehensive two-hour early pregnancy class addresses questions about the first prenatal visit, early pregnancy discomforts and the best ways to stay healthy while growing your baby. The class is offered online as a self-paced curriculum or real-time virtual with instruction from a certified perinatal educator.
What You Can Do
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your growing baby. Here are some tips for staying healthy during pregnancy:
Nutrition
Try to eat a balanced diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and proteins to ensure your body gets the nutrition it needs.
Hydration
Don’t forget to stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and steer clear of sugary or caffeinated drinks.
Exercise
Getting up and moving your body is an important part of staying healthy. Studies show that exercise may be beneficial in the prevention of gestational diabetes as well as cardiovascular complications. Enjoy a walk each day, or join one of our prenatal yoga classes to stretch your body and increase overall comfort.
Rest
Remember to take some time throughout your day for rest, relaxation and deep breathing. These are calming to both the body and mind.
