Allen Foundation Donates to Overlake's New Cancer Center

Bellevue, Wash. – The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation announced a $100,000 gift for the Overlake Cancer Center Campaign as a show of support for this revolutionary new concept of caring for the whole patient in one place, bringing all medical, support and complementary services together in a multidisciplinary clinic or a “one stop shop” for all types of cancer patients and their targeted care.

The goal of the campaign is to raise $10 million of community funding toward a $20 million project to build a new state-of-the-art cancer center that will include genetic counseling, naturopathy, acupuncture etc., all housed in one multidisciplinary clinic. The campaign has currently raised $7.9 million. 

“Overlake’s new Cancer Center will be the most innovative and integrated in the region with the new one stop system,” said Molly Stearns, Chief Development Officer of the Overlake Foundation and Auxiliaries.  “The Allen Family’s contribution inspires us to always be at the forefront of innovation for cancer care, focusing on making the process as convenient and stress free as possible for the patient so that their medical care is not something weighing on them.”

The Allen Foundation has been a major supporter of Overlake Medical Center for the past 20 years, contributing over $1.5 million in grants and contributions. Their most recent $100,000 gift will name a private infusion room in the Overlake Cancer Center, “The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation Infusion Room.” This Infusion suite is being designed to suit patients’ individual preferences for privacy. There will be two private rooms along with semi-private options as well as more open community areas. 

Overlake has been providing the Eastside community with top-tier cancer care for over 40 years, treating patients with highly-skilled specialists in virtually all forms of cancer, the most technologically advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities and rigorous quality care standards.

As a nonprofit hospital that receives no public tax support, Overlake relies on donations to help support program, technology and capital needs and provide care for patients and families coming to the 349-bed regional medical center.
