Advancements in Neurosurgery

Every year, Neurosurgery Awareness Month is observed in August, focusing on causes and prevention of traumatic brain injury, back pain and other neurological conditions, such as stroke.

Here at Overlake, we are proud to serve our community on the Eastside, in collaboration with EvergreenHealth, as a combined neurosurgical service under the Eastside Health Alliance.

With regards to surgical advancements, endoscopic surgery (using a thin, flexible tube) is available for the treatment of a multitude of conditions, including skull base tumors and other pathology within the ventricular system of the brain. Additionally, coupled with robust neuro-interventional treatment of vascular pathologies such as aneurysms, large vessel occlusions (a blockage in a major artery in the brain) and arteriovenous malformations (when a group of blood vessels form incorrectly), we are able to treat patients with open vascular surgery.

In conjunction with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, the treatment of a wide variety of oncologic conditions affecting the brain and spine are treated by our neurosurgical group. This includes the use of fluorescence visualization of gliomas and minimally invasive cranial access to deep-seated pathologies in the brain.

For the treatment of spine pathology, our surgeons use state-of-the-art technology, including computerized navigation, which promotes faster healing, mobilization, and reduces discomfort and pain.

We emphasize quality outcomes so that we can get our patients back to enjoying this beautiful area as soon as possible.
