Living with atrial fibrillation (AFib), the most common type of heart arrhythmia? At Overlake Medical Center & Clinics, our highly trained electrophysiologists use the latest technology to diagnose and treat irregular heartbeats. Depending on your needs, treatment options may include catheter ablation or advanced heart rhythm devices designed to restore proper heart rhythm.

Advanced AFib Solutions

Pulsed Field Ablation

One of the newest treatment options for AFib is pulsed field ablation (PFA), a minimally invasive procedure that uses targeted electrical energy to treat abnormal heart rhythms with greater precision. “At Overlake, we’re using the latest PFA technologies to treat arrhythmias more precisely and safely,” says Maheer Gandhavadi, MD, medical director of cardiac electrophysiology. “We’re one of only a few hospitals in the country with access to the newest systems, and the first in the Pacific Northwest to offer all FDA-approved options. That means we’re not limited to one approach — we can choose the best tools for each patient to help achieve the best possible outcome.”

Hear From Our Patient – At 76, retired podiatrist Marty Lynn was diagnosed with AFib after recurring fainting spells sent him to the emergency room. Looking for a long-term solution, he turned to Dr. Gandhavadi, who recommended pulsed field ablation. Marty is now back to enjoying retirement with renewed confidence and peace of mind. Read more

Heart Rhythm Devices

Overlake’s Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Closure Program offers an alternative to long-term blood thinners for patients with AFib who are at increased risk for stroke. As the only medical center on Seattle’s Eastside offering this advanced stroke prevention treatment, Overlake offers the latest LAA closure devices, including WATCHMAN™ and Amulet™.

Hear From Our Patient – After facing multiple health scares and surgeries in recent years, Judy Richardson and Jim Fox say they are grateful for more time together and greater peace of mind after their LAA closure procedures. “With this procedure, we can look forward to having longer lives together,” says Judy, 82.
