Overlake Medical Center & Clinics has been awarded a distinguished three-out-of-three star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) for its transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) program. This recognition places Overlake among an elite group of hospitals nationwide for excellence in patient care and outcomes.

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure used to replace the aortic valve in patients with severe aortic stenosis. The STS/ACC Transcatheter Valve Therapy (TVT) Registry evaluates hospitals across the country using clinical data submitted over a three-year period.

Overlake’s consistent performance across all 30-day composite metrics has earned it this top-tier rating for two consecutive years, in 2024 and 2025.

“This national recognition reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire cardiovascular team,” said Ronnier Aviles, MD, Overlake Interventional Cardiologist. “We are proud to deliver advanced heart care with exceptional outcomes to our community.”

“Since its inception, Overlake’s TAVR program has helped patients get back to their normal lives quicker,” said Scott Haugen, MD, Overlake Structural Heart Medical Director. “This procedure reduces complications associated with open heart surgery and is a great option for patients who may be considered high risk.”

Key Highlights:

  • Overlake is one of only 21 hospitals in the U.S. to receive a three-star rating in 2025 (848 total participating TAVR programs).
  • It is one of only five hospitals in the western United States to earn this distinction.
  • Overlake is the only hospital in Washington state with a three-star rating.

This achievement underscores Overlake’s commitment to providing high-quality, innovative cardiovascular care in a community hospital setting.
