We encourage all individuals contemplating surgery to attend at least one support group prior to surgery and to continue attending following a surgical procedure. At the support group, you will find people who have similar wellness goals, who wish to celebrate your successes and who support you during challenging times. It is a “drop-in” support group; no registration is required.
At the meeting, you can expect:
- Ongoing education.
- A sense of community and outreach among other patients.
- Motivation, psychological support and encouragement in transitioning to and maintaining a new lifestyle.
- Insight and education for new, potential candidates for surgery.
- Your right to privacy and confidentiality to be respected.
Our groups meet twice a month and are facilitated by our program dietitian, behavioral therapist and nurse manager. Summaries of each support group are emailed to all group members. We welcome patients, families, support person(s) and patients from other surgical practices.
The support group is currently meeting virtually. For more information, visit the classes and events page.
