Bellevue, Wash. – Overlake Medical Center today announced it has received independent recognitions from three national groups, highlighting Overlake’s ongoing commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience while maintaining the highest safety standards in its hospital and clinics.

“We are continuously investing in quality and safety,” said Overlake Chief Medical Officer David Knoepfler. “Through practices like our daily staff safety huddles, where we discuss specific patient situations, and our investments in data analytics and creating a safe physical environment, safety and quality guide everything we do. Providing the highest-quality treatment and compassionate care to our patients is at the forefront of our mission. We are grateful these respected outside observers have acknowledged our efforts and delivery of exceptional patient care.”

Overlake received a Hospital Safety Score “A” letter grade for the third year in a row from The Leapfrog Group. Overlake was one of only eight hospitals in the state, and the only one on the Eastside, to receive an A. The medical center also received Blue Cross-Blue Shield Blue Distinction+ for maternity and cardiac care, along with several honors from Healthgrades, including recognition in the categories of orthopedics, neuroscience and bariatrics.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent non-profit organization and advocate for patient safety nationwide, awards letter grades—A, B, C, D, or F—to 2,530 hospitals based on their performance on 28 safety measures, including how well they protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety, using publicly available data to empower patients to make informed decisions about the safety of their care.

Blue Distinction is the center of excellence program used nationally by Blue Cross Blue Shield and locally by Premera Blue Cross and Regence Blue Shield. The “+”designation recognizes Overlake for its expertise and cost-efficiency in delivering maternity care as well as the medical center’s demonstrated expertise and commitment to quality care for patients seeking inpatient cardiac services.
