In the News: 988 hotline is the new 911 for mental health emergencies. Here’s how it works

988, the new mental health emergency hotline, launched on July 16 and will directly connect patients with trained mental health professionals via phone call or text. Juan Antonio Avila, MD, Medical Director of Psychiatry at Overlake Medical Center, spoke with KING 5 about the significance of this service and how it's a step in the right direction. 

From the story: "The professionals are here to help you,” said Dr. Avila. "We're here to support you; we want to get you connected with the places there are going to be treating you and giving you what you need in order to get your life back on track."
