Next to your birthing bed, you’ll find a “comfort a la carte” menu of the different tools we have to help make labor more comfortable and relaxing including:
- Fairy lights to create a cozy ambiance.
- Birth balls and peanut balls, in different sizes to fit all bodies.
- Nitrous oxide.
- Epidurals.
A Dedicated Postpartum Unit
Unless your baby needs specialty care in our NICU, they stay in your postpartum room with you so your growing family can get the chance to know each other before going home. Our nursing staff will spend time with you and your baby, teaching you basic infant care such as feeding, diapering and swaddling.
When it comes to feeding your baby, all of our Childbirth Center nurses are trained to help you with breastfeeding. There are also lactation consultants available as needed to help you in the hospital and after you and your baby go home.
Our nurses will help you learn to feed, diaper, swaddle and care for your baby – and make sure you are comfortable and recovering well too. The loving attention and care our nurses provide is one of the reasons families choose to deliver at Overlake – time and again.
Your care team will assess how you and your baby are doing and if you are ready to go home. Everyone is different, but in general, if you had a vaginal delivery, you’ll likely stay in the postpartum unit for about 24 hours. And if you had a C-section, the typical stay is about 48 hours.
Meals and Snacks
During your time with us, meals will be provided for the birthing person, and meals are available for purchase for your support person. We encourage you to bring your favorite comfort snack and food, which can be stored in the nutrition room refrigerators. Overlake offers a full menu of room service meals including vegetarian and gluten-free options.
On each floor, you’ll also find a nutrition room, where you and your family can find drinks and snacks, 24/7.
Visitors
In our Childbirth Center, the Labor & Delivery rooms and the Parent & Baby rooms have plenty of space for family and friends to visit. In fact, the space was designed in thirds: one-third for the patient, one-third for the doctors and nurses, and one-third for family. Please ask your family and friends to call the Childbirth Center reception desk at (425) 688-5326 to determine your location after your baby’s birth.
One primary person can stay overnight. General visiting hours are 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m with a limit of 4 visitors at a time.
To keep your new baby healthy, it's important to ask visitors to wash their hands before holding your baby and to stay home if they are sick. Encourage friends and family to be up-to-date on their vaccines — flu and Tdap vaccines in particular — before your baby is born.
Security
The Childbirth Center's four-level security program includes a state-of-the-art system to help ensure you and your newborn are receiving care in a secure environment.
A small, tamper-proof baby tracking device is given to your baby at birth. If your baby is brought close to any of our exit doors, the door will automatically lock and staff will be alerted.
Newborn Photos
Bella Baby Photography is typically available in our Childbirth Center to take portraits of your newborn and your family during your stay. Please contact Bella Baby Photography directly to discuss newborn photography services.
We also encourage capturing your own photos and videos, but if you plan to take photos staff or other patients in the background, please ask for verbal consent.
