Bringing a child into the world is a truly joyous occasion! At Overlake Medical Center & Clinics, we are here as your trusted partner on this incredible journey, providing exceptional care and support tailored specifically to your needs as an expectant mother. Our mission is to ensure that you and your baby receive the utmost care and attention throughout your pregnancy.

To help you prepare for this wonderful milestone, we have created a comprehensive step-by-step prenatal guide. With our trimester-by-trimester calendar, you can stay organized and on track as you navigate the different stages of pregnancy. From attending classes that cover everything from pregnancy to childbirth, scheduling appointments, and more – our goal is to make sure you feel supported every step of the way.

*While we suggest the following timeline for our childbirth preparation classes, they can be taken at any time during your pregnancy.

First Trimester

  • Choose your doctor or midwife.
  • Schedule prenatal visits with your doctor or midwife.
  • Register for prenatal classes:
    • Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby: This free class prepares newly expectant families for the journey through pregnancy.
    • Yoga for Pregnancy: Gentle movement, breath practices, and relaxation to build resilience, find deep rest, and connect with your baby.

Second Trimester

  • Register for important baby care and prenatal classes:
    • Understanding Your Newborn: This class will prepare you to care for your newborn with fun, interactive, and informative instruction including diapering, bathing, soothing baby and more. Self-guided course or in-person. Also offered on-demand (online) in Spanish.
    • Breastfeeding Basics: Essential information to help prepare you for breastfeeding.
    • Infant CPR & First Aid: For expectant and new parents, grandparents and family members. Completion cards not awarded.
    • Continue taking or consider joining Yoga for Pregnancy.
  • Continue prenatal visits.
  • Regular doctor visits are important as you take care of your new baby. Choosing a primary care provider who best fits your family’s needs is the first step to your newborn’s good health. Your child’s doctor will likely become a trusted partner and advisor.

Fourth Trimester (After Baby Arrives)

  • Attend your postpartum follow-up visit.
  • Schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant, if needed.
