TeamBirth at Overlake Childbirth Center
At Overlake Childbirth Center, our goal is to honor your preferences, goals, culture, and values. We know every family is different, and we are committed to providing care that reflects what matters most to you.
Our center uses the TeamBirth approach, a patient‑centered model designed to support clear communication, teamwork, and shared decision‑making between you, your support person, and your medical team.
TeamBirth involves you in all decisions, as much as you want to be. And it can lead to better communication, which can lead to healthier, happier babies and families.
How TeamBirth Works During Labor
With TeamBirth, important decisions happen right in your room, with you at the center of the conversation.
Your care team uses regular bedside check‑ins (“huddles”) to:
- Review what’s happening in labor.
- Answer questions in real time and clarify information.
- Discuss options and what to expect next.
- Make sure everyone is aligned with your preferences and goals.
Shared Labor & Delivery Planning Board
Every room includes a large whiteboard that serves as your shared planning board, an up‑to‑date guide for your care.
This board helps keep everyone on the same page by:
- Reflecting your current preferences.
- Showing updates about how labor is progressing and why.
- Supporting clear communication during bedside check‑ins.
You and your birth partner are welcome to write questions or concerns on the board to discuss with your care team.
Supporting You in Labor
Your care team will work with you to support comfort, coping, and movement throughout labor based on your preferences. Options may include:
- Changing positions or walking.
- Focused breathing.
- Wireless fetal monitoring so you can move freely.
- Heat or cold therapy.
- Light, sounds, or other calming sensory changes.
- Touch, massage, or support from your partner.
- Pain medication, if desired.
You can talk with your nurse or provider at any time about what’s helping and what you’d like to try next.
