We offer a variety of programs and services designed to support pregnant families throughout pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

From the moment you find out you’re pregnant, our Childbirth Center is here for you. So if you’ve already chosen a doctor or midwife who delivers at Overlake Childbirth Center, that’s great. And if you still need to find a doctor or midwife who delivers here, we can help.

At regular prenatal visits with your chosen doctor or midwife, you’ll learn more about what to expect at each stage of your pregnancy, and what you can do to feel your best. You’ll also become more familiar with Overlake’s TeamBirth approach, and how our goal is always to put you at the center of each and every decision. This includes welcoming doulas as part of your care team.

We always encourage families to watch our virtual tour of our Childbirth Center and to sign up for our convenient, informative classes. The more you learn now and the better you get to know us, the better it can make your birth experience – and the days that follow.

Programs and Services

Our Childbirth Center provides many programs and services to support and empower pregnant families:

  • Virtual tours. A convenient way to learn the ins and outs of our warm, welcoming Childbirth Center is to watch this virtual tour.
  • Educational classes. We offer a variety of fun, interactive, educational classes to help you learn more about pregnancy, birth, feeding and caring for your baby.
  • Trimester checklist. Our team has put together a checklist to help guide your pregnancy so you feel as prepared and informed as possible.
  • TeamBirth approach. Your pregnancy provider can help you become familiar with our TeamBirth approach, which includes specific educational materials and practices – so you never feel unsure about what’s happening to your body or your baby.
  • Physical therapy. As your body changes shape and size during pregnancy, you may have discomfort, back aches or incontinence. Our physical therapists (PTs), including our specialized pelvic health PTs, are specifically trained to help with uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms.
  • Help with insurance and benefits. We invite you to learn more about accepted insurance plans at Overlake. We can also answer questions about out-of-pocket costs for care in our Childbirth Center, insurance coverage or payment at (425) 467-3518 or (425) 688-5655 Monday-Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Care Focused On Your Preferences

The midwives and doctors who deliver at Overlake are some of the most experienced and respected in the region. Whether your pregnancy is typical or more complex, our team is equipped to safely deliver your baby.

Our Childbirth Center team will work closely with your pregnancy provider to offer personalized prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care for both you and your baby.

We believe it’s best for you to play an active role in your pregnancy and your labor and delivery. And that’s why we use the TeamBirth approach to do everything we can to make sure we meet your medical needs – and your personal ones.

Convenient Classes Taught by Certified Childbirth Educators, Nurses and Lactation Consultants

At Overlake, we believe knowledge is power. And our goal is to help families feel as confident and informed as possible about pregnancy, birth and parenting. From labor coping skills to understanding your newborn’s needs and cues, each of our classes is taught by a certified childbirth educator who’s ready to answer each and every one of your questions.

Our classes are offered at different locations and times, both virtually and in-person – so you can find one that best fits your needs and stage of pregnancy. Some insurance companies will cover the cost of these classes, so be sure to call and ask if that’s the case for you.

We offer several educational classes for pregnant families, including:

  • Labor coping skills. This class, taught by our labor nurses, teaches you about the signs of early labor and the many tools you can use to get through the challenges of labor.
  • Breastfeeding basics. This class, taught by lactation consultants, is for families who plan to breastfeed. Families who attend this class leave understanding that breastfeeding is a learned skill. And they often have an easier time getting off to a good start because they’ve learned how to help their baby latch well and find comfortable breastfeeding positions.
  • Colostrum collection. This class teaches you how to express colostrum during the last trimester of pregnancy. Colostrum, the first form of breast milk, is full of nutrients that help strengthen your baby’s immune system, clear their first stool (meconium), and regulate their blood sugar.

Welcoming Doulas as Part of Our Team

We encourage families to consider using a doula to support them. A doula is a professional who’s specifically trained in childbirth and labor support. They partner with the nurses and providers to provide additional labor support to help promote your preferences during birth. At Overlake, we not only support families in using a doula, we fully welcome them as part of your care team.

We have close relationships with many local doulas and meet with them quarterly so they can get to know us. And in our childbirth classes, we typically highlight and celebrate a “doula of the month.” We also help connect families to doula services through MyChart – and invite you to search for doulas near you and learn more about them at doula match or DONA.org.

If you know you’d like to use a doula to support your birth, check with your insurance company to see if they will cover the cost.

Help for Packing Your Bags

Families always wonder what they need to bring to our Childbirth Center and when to pack their bags.

We suggest packing one small bag to use during labor and one small bag for after your baby is born – and having them ready around week 35.

Labor bag packing list:

  • Birth plan.
  • Bathrobe and pajamas, if you want to wear your own.
  • Slippers or socks.
  • Large bath towel.
  • Swim trunks/suit for tub or shower during labor – swimsuit is optional for laboring person.
  • Yoga mat to more comfortably get into different labor positions.
  • Nursing bra and nursing pads.
  • Personal grooming items such as lip balm, deodorant, toothbrush, contact lenses.
  • Portable speaker if you wish to listen to music during labor.
  • Chargers for electronics.

Packing list for after your baby is born:

  • Loose, comfortable clothing to wear home.
  • Clothes for your baby to wear home including socks and a hat.
  • A baby blanket.
  • Your favorite snacks and/or specialty foods to meet your needs beyond our room service program.
  • Your pediatrician's name and phone number.
  • An infant car seat. Please have your car seat installed and free of packaging. The harness and straps should be in the lowest slots. Practice installing the seat in your vehicle and adjusting the harness straps before your baby's birth.

What do we suggest you don’t bring? Valuable items and candles. Cash or jewelry are best left at home. And we’re happy to provide you with battery-operated candles during your stay.
