Trauma Surgery
When a patient is brought to the hospital for emergency treatment after trauma, a general surgeon may also evaluate the need for surgical treatment and coordinate these aspects of the patient's care. Surgeons from other specialties will be called upon to provide treatment depending on the nature of the patient's injuries.
Overlake was the first hospital on the Eastside to be designated by the state of Washington as a Level III trauma center. As a Level III trauma center, we have committed medical staff and specialty training to resuscitate and stabilize trauma patients. In addition, we serve as the primary backup site for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the region's only Level I trauma center. Overlake is committed to providing emergency care for King County residents, from the east side of Lake Washington to the eastern border of the county.
A partial list of trauma surgery procedures available at Overlake Medical Center include:
- Exploratory laparotomy.
- Gastric resection.
- Liver laceration repair.
- Splenectomy.
- Small bowel resection.
- Colon resection
- Temporary colostomy.
